Frequently asked questions about visiting Estonia
Why visit Estonia?
For me, as someone who lives in Latvia, the most unique part of traveling in Estonia is that it is the only Baltic country that has islands in the open Baltic Sea. It provides a mix of raw Baltic charm and an island life that you won’t find anywhere else, which is why Saaremaa has always been my favourite place to visit in Estonia. But I also find Tallinn with its old time charm super well organised for tourists too, so if your looking for those medieval vibes – Estonia’s capital is the place you’re looking for.
How many days you need in Estonia?
In an ideal scenario I would recommend 3 days to explore all of Estonia’s attractions that are in Tallinn and nearby, 2 days in Saaremaa and then 1 additional day for every other city you would like to visit.
Can you visit Estonia without a car?
You can explore Tallinn by public transport and Tartu by walking but for other places to see in Estonia based on my experience you would need a car, especially if you want to stop at some places like caves and waterfalls along the way.
